Lexington, MA was rocked by recent events surrounding a reported abduction attempt that spurred a flurry of police activity and community concern. On Thursday, March 14, an alleged kidnapper targeted a local nine-year-old autistic girl right from her backyard, igniting fear throughout the neighborhood. According to Hoodline, the girl bravely fought off her attacker, employing her karate training to free herself and seek safety.
Wearing a ski mask and dressed in black, the suspect attempted to silence the girl by covering her mouth, reports Hoodline. However, she managed to kick the individual in a vulnerable spot and fled. "My daughter was able to kick him in his genital area and she was able to get away so I'm very grateful," the mother conveyed in a statement obtained by CBS Boston. The girl's mother has been left shaken, fearful of the idea of heading back to work or sending her kids to school.
Despite the unsettling details surrounding the attempted abduction, the Lexington Police Department concluded after a detailed inquiry that no attempted child abduction took place. As per an announcement on their Facebook page, they've assured the community that there is no persistent threat to residents and they are working closely with the family to provide support and assistance.
People in Lexington, still on edge, have been advocating for heightened precautions. A neighbor, Jessica Holt-Carr, alluded to a letter from school officials about the incident. "It just proves that even in Lexington these things happen," she recalled to CBS Boston. And the lesson about stranger danger resonates deeply; Russell, a local student, warned his peers after being interviewed by CBS Boston, saying, "Don't trust every single person you see for sure yeah." The police have been urging anyone with information to come forward, pledging to remain steadfast in safeguarding the community.
