A 23-year-old man was fatally shot while driving in Chicago's West Ridge neighborhood late Tuesday night, authorities said. The victim was traveling in his black Nissan when an assailant opened fire around 10:50 p.m., striking him in the chest, according to a WGN-TV report.
After being shot, the wounded motorist continued to drive before crashing his vehicle on West Devon Avenue. Despite sustaining a severe gunshot wound to his left side upper chest, he managed to get himself to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, the Chicago Sun-Times confirms.
The identity of the slain man has not been disclosed, and as of now, Chicago police have not apprehended any suspects in connection to the shooting. The circumstances leading up to the incident remain unclear, and it is not known whether the victim was the intended target of the attack.
