A hit-and-run in Fort Lauderdale has taken the life of an unidentified man, authorities stated. Fort Lauderdale Police Department reported they arrested 48-year-old Max Fleury in connection with the incident that happened in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to CBS News Miami, the police charged Fleury with failure to stop for an accident involving death, driving with a suspended license, and operating a vehicle without a license. The fatal collision, involving a cyclist, occurred on West Sunrise Boulevard.

Shortly after the crash, happening just after midnight, Fort Lauderdale Police conducted a traffic stop where they located a vehicle that seemed consistent with having been in a crash, despite the accident investigating for potential DUI involvement. WSVN captured surveillance footage of the moment of the accident. Fleury left the scene initially, but law enforcement didn't take long to track down and arrest him. He's currently booked in the BSO Main Jail.

Responding to the emergency were the Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Rescue, who found the man after having been struck by the car. He was afterward rushed to Broward Health Medical Center. Unfortunately, despite their efforts at life-saving, the hospital pronounced him dead, with his identity remaining unreleased. NBC Miami spoke with a witness who shared that the victim was an auto body technician regularly biking to work in Pompano Beach with his bicycle.
