A Memphis caregiver faces serious charges after police say she hurled boiling water on her mentally challenged and deaf patient, causing severe burns. Tina Vaughn, 42, is now facing an aggravated assault of a vulnerable adult and simple assault after the vicious incident on January 21, reported WREG.

The confrontation occurred in a residence on Gookin Place. Having decided to cook noodles, the victim found themselves on the receiving end of Vaughn's temper as she commanded him to leave the kitchen and retreat to the living room, Action News 5 detailed the sequence of events. Once settled on the couch, Vaughn reportedly followed and doused him with the scalding liquid, resulting in second and third-degree burns across his face, neck, and back.

After responding to the incident, officers from the Memphis Police Department arrived at the Regional One Burn Center on the evening of January 24, where the victim was being treated for extensive injuries. As per the affidavit acquired by WDAM, the injuries included burns to the right side of his face, shoulder, and back.

The victim's disabilities, which include intellectual and developmental impairments, schizophrenia, and ADHD, in conjunction with his deafness, elevate the gravity of Vaughn's charges, reflecting the particularly heinous nature of the assault within the group home meant to be a safe space. Having heard the victim scream, he then fled the apartment, thus ending the horrific attack.
