The address corresponds to Crazy Mexican Sports Bar, a dining and nightlife venue that stays open until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, according to the business's own posted hours. Memphis police confirmed they found one gunshot victim at the scene and that the person was transported to the hospital, as WREG reported. The outlet said it would update the story as more information becomes available.
A Familiar Address for Southeast Memphis Violence
This is not the first time the 6433 Winchester Road location has drawn a major police response. The broader Winchester Road corridor has seen repeated early-morning shootings tied to its nightlife scene. In July, police arrested a 36-year-old suspect on a $1.5 million bond after a fatal pre-dawn shooting outside Paradise Lounge in the nearby 5900 block of Winchester Road. In May, officers responded to another pre-dawn shooting near Winchester Road and Hickory Hill Road that left a victim in critical condition. Just weeks ago, a nightclub raid along the same corridor netted six arrests and seized guns, part of what Hoodline described as ongoing prosecutorial scrutiny of violent nightlife spots in the area.
Citywide Numbers Tell a Different Story
The recurring incidents along this stretch of Winchester Road stand in contrast to citywide trends. The Memphis Police Department's second-quarter public safety report, released in July, found that Part I major crime had dropped 36% year-to-date, with homicides down 60% compared to the same period in 2025. Public crime dashboard data through August showed citywide robberies falling 48.5% year-over-year, building on a 27% decline in major violent crimes recorded across all of 2025.
Even against that backdrop of improvement, the Southeast Memphis commercial strip has remained a localized hot spot. It remains unknown whether the victim in Sunday's shooting was a patron or employee of the sports bar, whether security cameras captured the shooter or a suspect vehicle, or whether police or the Shelby County District Attorney's Office will review security practices at the property.

Should investigators identify and arrest a suspect, Tennessee law lays out steep penalties for gun violence. Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-102, an assault with a deadly weapon that causes bodily injury is charged as Class C felony aggravated assault, carrying three to 15 years in prison and fines up to $10,000. If prosecutors instead pursue an attempted first-degree murder charge under Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-202 and § 39-12-101, the offense becomes a Class A felony punishable by 15 to 60 years in state prison.
