In a heartfelt tribute to his daughter and other individuals with Down Syndrome, Memphis father Josh Greer has once again completed his annual 21-mile trek across the city, marking World Down Syndrome Day with an impressive fundraising effort. As FOX13 Memphis reported, Josh Greer set foot on his mission to raise $21,000, a poignant reminder of the significance of the number 21—the representation of the extra chromosome that defines Down Syndrome.

The "Walkin' in Memphis" event, now in its seventh year, has a deeply personal connection to the Greer family. Their eight-year-old daughter Marley was born with Down Syndrome and has since found immense support from the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South (DSAM). While traversing the city, Greer made 21 stops, each imbuing his journey with a mixture of Memphis culture and community spirit. He began the walk early at the Memphis/Arkansas Bridge and culminated at Beale Street Landing on Riverside Drive in an effort that took 12-14 hours. As WREG notes, the public was invited to a celebration with food available for purchase.

Greer serves as the Board Vice President of DSAM, and his ongoing dedication has been hailed by the organization's Executive Director, Martine Hobson, who described him as "a man who loves his daughter" in an interview with LocalMemphis. This year, the bridge ceremony allowed participants to witness the I-40 bridge adorned in blue and yellow, symbolizing solidarity and awareness for the cause.

This far-reaching gesture by Greer is designed to funnel 100% of the proceeds directly into DSAM. This network continues to be, as in the Greers' personal story, a critical resource for families impacted by Down Syndrome. Before the walk, Greer had already successfully raised $4,000, bringing him closer to his $21,000 goal incrementally. For those who couldn't join the walk, DSAM also held a kickoff event at Wiseacre Brewing Company—free to attend. This precursor allowed supporters to connect with Josh, DSAM staff, and families benefiting from the association's work.
