Memphis Teen Dies Following Accidental Shooting, Prompts Gun Safety Dialogue

The shooting occurred on the night of March 13, just after 11 p.m. near Wooddale High School, and has since sparked discussions around gun safety in homes with children.

The young victim was discovered with a gunshot wound in the 3300 block of Castleman Street, as reported by Local Memphis. She was swiftly taken in a critical condition to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital where, despite desperate medical interventions, she succumbed to her injuries the following morning.

No details regarding the shooter have been released by law enforcement, and the young girl's name has been withheld out of respect for the grieving family. The family expressed their devastation to FOX13, saying they "never expected this to happen to her" and highlighting the unanticipated nature of the tragedy that befell them. He further advised, "There’s all kinds of gun safes that you can have that are not expensive. Anybody who decides to purchase a gun and decides to keep it in their home and they know they have children, they need to not only secure it but keep it in a secret place so the children are not distracted by it."
