A 20-year-old woman from Memphis has been put behind bars after being accused of a sinister online dating ruse that ended in gunfire. Aniah Sanders allegedly used a dating app to ensnare her victim, leading him into what appeared to be a romantic encounter only to turn it into a violent robbery attempt on March 6, 2024. According to the information provided by WREG, Sanders is now facing an array of charges including criminal attempt first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, and especially aggravated kidnapping.
After Sanders lured the unnamed male victim to a Parkway Village apartment, the encounter took a perilous twist. Despite inviting the man into a bedroom, Sanders left shortly after and, as detailed by the court documents from FOX13 Memphis, two armed men broke into the room. The victim, finding himself cornered, was shot at during what escalated to be a robbery.
Additional charges against Sanders include employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, assault offensive contact, aggravated burglary, and two counts of violation of probation. These allegations add to a disturbing portrait of a planned violent crime, as outlined on the arrest affidavit and corroborated by local reports.
While the narrative of Sanders' alleged crime unfolds, the victim's ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the perils hidden in the shadows of online dating. Following the arrest, Sanders is being held, according to authorities quoted by Yahoo News. The case continues to spark discourse on the risks associated with digital intimacy and the deceptive veneer that can often cloak predatory intentions.
