Miami Beach officials have cracked down on spring break revelry by enforcing a strict midnight curfew for the weekend, a move they say is aimed at curbing "dangerous mayhem." The curfew, which goes into effect starting tonight at 11:59 p.m. and extends until 6 a.m. Monday, encompasses the area bordered by 23rd Street and Dade Boulevard to the north, Government Cut to the south, Biscayne Bay to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, as reported by CBS News Miami. To ensure that the emergency measures are strictly followed, public safety officers will patrol enforcing the curfew throughout the area.

City Manager Alina Hudak has reiterated the gravity of the situation, affirming the commitment to maintaining public order amidst the influx of spring break tourists. "We have been very clear about our intent to protect the public from the dangerous mayhem that has accompanied Spring Break crowds in recent years," Hudak told CBS News Miami. Establishing in advance the necessity of the curfew, businesses within the affected area have been instructed to shut down so patrons can comply with the emergency measures.

Moreover, a Special Event Zone has been instituted, starting at 8 p.m. Friday and lasting until 7 a.m. Monday, impacting the streets from 17th Street to South Pointe Park. This includes Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, Washington Avenue, and all adjacent streets where fines for noncriminal traffic infractions can be doubled, and vehicles may be subjected to impoundment for violations, as per the coverage on WSVN.

Despite the curfew, establishments in the designated areas are permitted to continue delivery services during the restricted hours. This applies to city residents needing access to or from their homes, guests to their hotels, employees of business establishments requiring access, and necessary business deliveries. However, adhering to the new restrictions, the sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption will be prohibited in the curfew zone after 6 p.m. each day. The Miami Beach City Commission previously passed a resolution endorsing such a curfew to mitigate the expected disturbances during the holiday weekend, as Miami Beach City Manager Alina Hudak warned businesses to anticipate, told WSVN.
