In the wee hours of a Mesa morning, recklessness on the road led to a series of crashes and arrests for DUI on US 60, one of the involved, a driver flipped their Jeep onto the highway's pavement and another slammed into a cop-car, as reported by authorities. The first in the chain of mishaps occurred near US 60 and Country Club Drive around 2 a.m., where the driver of the Jeep, after hitting another car, took a dive off the roadway and ended up inverted on the westbound US 60, according to ABC15.

Law enforcement was quick on the scene, managing to extract the driver from their upturned vehicle with only minor injuries, and soon after officers arrested the individual for driving under the influence, as FOX 10 Phoenix reported . In a separate but related incident, while the initial crash investigation was underway an additional driver failed to notice the officer's blockade and collided into a police vehicle, this second driver was also taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Both crashes are currently undergoing further investigation. The Jeep driver is facing charges of extreme DUI, implying they had a blood alcohol concentration above .15, according to Mesa Police Det. Richard Encinas. Det. Encinas, in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, highlighted the risk saying, "One simple mistake, like what happened last night, that could have ended not only in our suspect driver being killed, but they could have killed somebody else." He emphasized the key role of personal responsibility when behind the wheel especially in Arizona's zero-tolerance DUI landscape.
