The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) has announced the addition of a new voice on the other end of the emergency line. Kayley McCarthy has started as the EPPD’s newest dispatcher, ready to serve and guide residents through crises, having moved from a chilling Alaskan upbringing to the warmer community of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
McCarthy made the move to Minnesota back in 2008 and clocked in over 14 years of experience with the Carver County Sheriff’s Office before her recent transition to Eden Prairie. The invaluable knowledge she brings to the table comes at a time when the dispatch center, which operates round the clock, fielded 45,765 calls in the past year, ranging from unexpected burglary alarms to unfortunate vehicle crashes and fires that disturb our civic peace, according to the City of Eden Prairie, MN.
Dispatchers like McCarthy are more than just the calm voice in the storm—they are the unsung heroes who know their communities inside out. The local streets, parks, shopping areas, and schools are all mapped in their minds, providing a level of service to 911 callers that goes beyond the routine. They forge an unseen bond with the first responders, whose lives and missions are often in their hands.
As Eden Prairie celebrated welcoming McCarthy into the fold, her depth of experience is expected to further bolster the tailored service that the dispatchers pride themselves on providing. They not only answer calls but also maintain a vital link between the city's officers, firefighters, and the public they serve. "We’re happy to have Kayley join their ranks!", as reported by the City of Eden Prairie, MN.
