Oakland Police Nab Trio Suspected of Estuary Boat Break-In, Recover Stolen GoodsSource: Oakland Police Department

The Oakland Estuary has been a target for thieves, but a recent investigation by local law enforcement has led to the capture of three suspects. According to a Facebook post by the Oakland Police Department, the OPD Marine Unit and Criminal Investigation Division Burglary Unit have collared a trio for a break-in that occurred on March 13, at a maritime business on the Embarcadero.

The successful apprehension followed the business providing video evidence of the crime, which allowed officers from the Marine Unit to identify the suspects as individuals living on boats in the estuary. Working alongside the Burglary Unit, the Marine Unit served search warrants on March 28, 2024, leading them straight to two vessels where the stolen goods were recovered and the suspects captured. Living among the boats they once prowled, the suspects were pulled from the waters they were accused of preying upon.

Authorities plan to present the case to the Alameda District Attorney's Office for prosecution. The OPD continues its probe into other thefts plaguing the Oakland waterways. The department urges anyone with information to contact the OPD Burglary Unit at (510) 238-3951 as the investigation into the ongoing thefts remains active.
