A fatal shooting at a Whitehaven townhome complex left one man dead and a woman critically injured, Memphis authorities reported. The Memphis Police Department was called to the 4100 block of Rainwood Drive at the Sterling Townhomes shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday, Action News 5 said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two gunshot victims who were then rushed to Regional One Hospital. The man succumbed to his injuries, a statement from the police confirmed, while the woman remains in a critical condition. The victims were said to have known their attacker, however, the identity of the shooter, or the motive behind the incident has not been disclosed.

The violent episode in the residential area, which is in proximity to the airport, has left the community shaken. According to WREG, both individuals were in critical condition when they were taken to the hospital, and, the man later died. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the tragic event.

In the event's aftermath, the Memphis Police Department has not yet released any additional information regarding potential suspects or arrests.
