The city's sports complex is rolling out a lineup of specials this week that are hitting home runs with the community. Friday, March 8, is 'Bark at the Park,' a fur-friendly event for pet owners to enjoy a game with their beloved pooches. Courtesy of Petco, a $5 dog admission ticket gets tails wagging, with 100% of proceeds helping to ensure animals' health and wellness. Dogs and their owners can enter through Gate C, but don't forget to keep your pet on a leash!
Then on Saturday, March 9, bookworms and baseball fans can unite for 'Book It to the Ballpark.' Attendees are invited to donate a like-new children’s book to support local libraries. In return, you get to quite literally play catch on the field postgame—don't forget your glove and ball. It's a simple swing at blending literacy and sport in an event.
As Sundays are for the kids, March 10 promises a day where 'Kids Run the Bases.' This event is all about encouraging the youngsters (12 and under) to burn off that Cracker Jack-fueled energy by dashing around the diamond. Plus, Peoria’s Parks and Recreation department isn't stopping at just base-running—they're offering a host of activities including fielding with a player and leading the 7th inning stretch, that are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Veterans and active duty service members can snag a 25% discount on selected game tickets. Peoria residents also get to save a quarter off ticket prices for up to four spring training games, ensuring that local fans backing their home team won't have to break the bank.
