An Arizona family is grappling with an inconceivable medical crisis as their young daughter faces life-altering surgeries following a Group A Streptococcus infection; seven-year-old Victoria Pasten-Morales has undergone multiple amputations due to the aggressive bacterial disease that has ravaged her small body.

Since being admitted to Phoenix Children's Hospital, Victoria has had eight surgeries, losing both feet and her right hand, her left hand is still in jeopardy— all this unfolding in a harrowing two-week period, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.

The onset of Victoria's illness was rapid and devastating, beginning with symptoms that, while initially mirroring those of a benign illness, escalated in severity in less than half a day, "Her lips and hands started turning blue," her mother, Obdulia Morales, told FOX 10 Phoenix. The bacteria's rapid progression has affected her lungs and kidneys, leading to her current reliance on a ventilator.

While it remains unclear how Victoria contracted the Group A Streptococcus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers insight into the prevention and treatment of infections caused by this bacteria, which includes serious conditions like necrotizing fasciitis and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, the CDC highlights the importance of good hygiene practices such as frequent hand-washing to reduce the risk of infection, according to CDC official website.
