Portland's streets are aglow with the charm of the "Winter Lights Festival," illuminating the cold nights from February 2nd to the 10th. However, rejoice for those who couldn't brave the chill because several installations will continue to brighten up the plazas throughout the month. According to the February Plaza Newsletter released by the Public Street Plaza team, not one, but three dazzling displays have taken residence in Montgomery, St Johns, and NW 13th Ave Plazas. Let's not forget the Cart Blocks where special performances took place, though those acts were for the festival dates only.
As for Montgomery Street Plaza, Steve Harper from Indigo Design isn't just going to pack up his projected lights once the festival crowd dissipates. His installation will stick around until early March, giving PSU students, and anyone looking to add a little color to their evening walks, plenty of time to check out the vibrant displays. And a stone's throw away, the audience can catch Thee Octipie of Love installation, which is posted up right in front of the historical Simon Benson Home, as per Portland.gov.
If you feel that eco-friendly buzz, PSU's Student Sustainability Center kicked off the festival with their Winter Lights Social on February 2nd. Though that ship has sailed, the light installations, which also double as an affirmation of the city's commitment to sustainability, are still up and running to close off this month with some luminescent love.
For residents wanting a closer connection to their community, there's something on the calendar to look forward to. This weekend, a Community Open House is set to take place at the Darcelle XV Plaza, a move to further engage locales with the spaces they occupy. So, if you feel like you've been cooped up this winter season, this might just be the perfect opportunity to get out there and mingle with your neighbors in a lively, lit-up setting, according to Portland.gov.
