The collaborative strike force, which took place on March 5th, saw officers from the East Precinct work alongside the Oregon State Police, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, and Transit Police in what has been described as a criminal interdiction mission. The collective effort zeroed in on the sellers and users of narcotics in the East Precinct community, a statement from the PPB detailed.
The operation was fruitful, with a tally of 42 arrests, 48 felony charges, and 10 misdemeanor charges laid out by the participating officers. The authorities did not stop at apprehension alone; they also recovered 2 stolen vehicles, 3 firearms, and a variety of illicit substances including fentanyl and methamphetamine.
In their continued battle against the opioid epidemic, the police additionally seized 16 fentanyl pills and 5.79 grams of powder form, as well as 181.25 grams of methamphetamine and 7.2 grams of cocaine. Further to arrests and seizures, officers distributed addiction resource cards in a bid to aid those entangled with substance abuse, indicating a compassionate component to the interdiction efforts.
Reflecting an ongoing strategy, the PPB East Precinct has signaled intentions to keep up these cooperative operations to curb the flow of narcotics and associated crime within their jurisdiction.
