Four men have recently been handed stiff prison sentences for a 2022 armed robbery in Cherokee County, as reported by WSB-TV. The individuals, identified as Omar Sheriff-Tyhear Faines, Kristopher Devon Maxey, Nasir De’shawn Stover, and Courtney Anthony Watson, pleaded guilty to the charges, which have collectively earned them a total of 90 years behind bars.
According to the details made available by FOX 5 Atlanta, the four planned and executed a robbery in the dead of night, driving to the targeted Waverly Park neighborhood at around 2:30 a.m. on November 3, two years ago. Faines, 20, and Stover, 17, both masked, ambushed a man and a woman from behind, brandishing guns and thieving an iPhone 13 and a switchblade knife. Meanwhile, Maxey, 21, and Watson, 19, waited in the car. The treacherous quartet, in a twist of irony, soon realized they left behind their own phone, initiating a fruitless swap for the items stolen before recklessly snatching back the phone from the victims' hands.
It's reported that during the incident, the assailants, revealed as Bloods gang affiliates, continually asked "where is the blicky," slang for a firearm, a chilling threat during the criminal act. The subsequent investigation by law enforcement uncovered not only the stolen goods and weapons but also ties the men had to the Bloods. Cherokee County Assistant District Attorney Chavis highlighted during the prosecution the gang's link and the aggression of the offense, said in a statement obtained by WSB-TV.
The sentences handed down were severe:, with Faines, Maxey, and Stover receiving 20 years each, while Watson got 30, due to an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a first-offender probationer. They are also barred from setting foot in Cherokee County once they are released. The DA Susan K. Treadaway, stressed the importance of this case for the safety of the local population, noting "four known gang members are now serving prison sentences, and have been banned from our county for the protection of our citizens," according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
