Temperatures weren't the only thing heating up in Scottsdale this weekend—so were tempers, which led to a road rage incident that escalated to gunfire on Loop 101. According to the Department of Public Safety, two drivers' fury boiled over into violence shortly after 1 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway after Via Linda, near Shea Boulevard, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The rage-fueled dispute resulted in a collision and one of the enraged drivers taking shots at the other, although, by grace or luck, no one was injured.

The Arizona DPS said that the chaos unfolded just before 1:10 p.m. on March 23, when the two motorists, whose identities have been withheld, clashed on the road. After the crash, one driver escalated the matter and fired at the other vehicle. "Both drivers are facing criminal charges for their actions during the incident," DPS said in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The event led to a closure of the HOV and left lanes of Loop 101 until about 6 p.m., as reported by AZ Family.

No further details regarding what specifically triggered the road rage have been released. An investigation is currently underway, and authorities are looking to piece together the events that led to this dangerous shootout.
