Authorities in South Florida have cracked down on a burglary ring with the arrest of seven individuals accused of targeting Asian homeowners. The Coral Springs Police Department, Broward Sheriff's Office, and Palm Beach Sheriff's Office coordinated efforts to end a series of at least 10 residential burglaries in the region.

The suspects were nabbed Wednesday after investigators used license plate readers and secret cameras to track their movements, resulting in a bust while the crew burglarized an home in Coral Springs. According to WSVN, the ring was comprised of six men and an woman, whose believed that their victims would have significant amounts of cash on hand.

At a press conference, Coral Springs Police Chief Bradley McKeone pointed out, "The criminals are looking for crimes of opportunity in this case here. It's people who have cash or have valuables that they know are gonna typically be in the house," he elaborated. The suspects speculated that Asian business owners such as those operating Chinese restaurants and nail salons, generally deal in cash, making them prime targets.

A victim spoke to Local 10 News on the condition of anonymity, recounting how the culprits made off with an entire safe from his residence. "I think we were specifically targeted," the homeowner said. Damage to his property was evident where the safe had been dragged down the stairs.

Arrested individuals include Norma Garcia Maldonado, Wilson Daniel Agudel Restrepo, Jhon Edward Augudelo, Ricardo Mauricio Llanos Velazquez, Julio Cesar Moreno Arenas, Bryan Steven Munoz Diaz, and Edwin Nicolas Urquijo Cabrera, hailing from Colombia and Mexico. They face multiple charges of burglary and grand theft, and investigators are considering additional hate crime charges.

Law enforcement successfully recovered all stolen property following the arrests. These recent efforts reflect a heightened commitment to protecting communities against such premeditated crimes of opportunity.
