A Franklin soccer coach has been hit with a slew of heinous charges following a grand jury indictment earlier this month. Camilo Hurtado Campos stands accused of sexually assaulting minors and possessing a cache of explicit materials.
According to FOX 17, a Williamson County grand jury issued an indictment contending with 31 charges against Campos after authorities found evidence suggesting a nightmare scenario. Accusations span from continuous sexual abuse of a child and multiple rape counts to aggravated rape and sexual exploitation charges. Found at a local restaurant, the phone belonging to Campos held disturbing videos and photographs, detailing assaults against boys aged between roughly 9 and 17.
The investigation by the Franklin Police Department described the case as among the most "shocking" and "egregious" they have encountered. Campos, they believe, preyed on potential victims by frequenting school playgrounds in the Hill Estates and Glass Lane areas, where he convinced children to join his soccer team.
"Campos allegedly recorded himself raping unconscious boys," WSMV4 reported. The 56-year-old coach who lived in the Franklin area for two decades, reportedly groomed many of his victims before drugging and assaulting them in his home. The Franklin Police Department's immediate response to a forgotten phone led them to hundreds of appalling images and videos corroborating the victims' accounts.
Aside from the litany of sex crime charges, Campos faces lighter counts for controlled substances after being found with marijuana and cocaine. According to reporting by Williamson Source, these additional charges paint the broader picture of a man who utilized his influence as a coach to exploit the trust of young, aspiring athletes.
