A Springfield man is behind bars today following a significant drug bust by local and state law enforcement agencies that yielded a large haul of cocaine and heroin. The Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, alongside the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit and Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, spearheaded the operation that led to the arrest.
Officials executed a search warrant this morning at an East Hooker Street address, in a sweep resulting in the capture of roughly 4.5 kilograms of cocaine, 93 bags of heroin, and nearly $5,000 in cash. The cash was suspected, believed to be linked to the gritty trade of drug trafficking, with the officers hoping to unearth even more evidence, which was performed by the team responsible for collaring the suspect.
An announcement explained that William Arroyo, 52, of Springfield, has been charged with serious offenses. According to MSP officials, Arroyo is facing one count of trafficking a Class B substance (cocaine) over 200 grams and one count of possession of a Class A substance (heroin), subsequent offense. Arroyo was booked at the Springfield Police Department and was expected to make his first appearance in court later today.
