Drivers in Surprise should brace for a bit of inconvenience as the city rolls out plans to beef up Cactus Road. The stretch from Cotton Lane to Reems Road is getting a major facelift set to start on March 11, aimed at improving the traffic situation big time by Spring 2026, the city announced.
The overhaul will include widening the busy thoroughfare to a solid six lanes complete with new-fangled dedicated turn lanes, those are coming alongside fancy raised medians that'll be dolled up with landscaping, and that's not all, because the place will be lit with new streetlights, plus drivers can look forward to cruising through new traffic signals at the intersections of Prasada Parkway and Greer Ranch Parkway with even the old stoplights at Sarival Avenue and Cotton Lane getting a high-tech touch-up.
As the work gets underway, motorists should anticipate seeing more orange cones than usual and the occasional traffic snarl as the city's contractors do their thing. Major disruptions will be broadcasted loud and clear to keep the surprise in Surprise to a minimum and keep drivers in the know as they navigate the changes.
Patience will be a virtue for those who traverse this part of town, the project, which is chugging along to wrap up in the spring of 2026, promises a smoother ride and a prettier view once all the dust settles, for now, just keep an eye peeled for those updates and plan those commutes accordingly.
