
A violent fray in Chandler escalated into an officer-involved shooting late Friday night, leaving a domestic violence suspect critically wounded. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Chandler Police responded to Chandler Boulevard and I-10 after receiving reports of a domestic incident at a local hotel shortly before midnight.
Upon their arrival, police encountered the suspect, who had not been identified, and opened fire on the officers. While being immediately shot at by the suspect, "Our officers returned fire, striking the suspect who remains in critical condition at the hospital," Chandler PD stated, as obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The original domestic violence victim was reportedly also receiving treatment for their injuries, separate from those of the shooting.
Further details from Arizona's Family, reported that the shoot-out occurred at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Chandler Boulevard. As per their statement, "The suspect started shooting at officers as they approached him," and then the officers retaliated with gunfire, injuring the man.
Thankfully, in the melee that ensued, no police officers were injured, and the domestic violence victim wasn't harmed by gunfire but did receive treatment for injuries presumably sustained during the initial altercation. This incident marks Arizona's 23rd officer-involved shooting this year and the 16th within Maricopa County.
