South Boston's nighttime calm was shattered early Sunday morning when two suspects were apprehended after attempting to heist a moped, according to the Boston Police Department. Officers assigned to the anti-crime unit in District C-6 were alerted around 12:31 AM to three individuals trying to bypass the chains of justice—and the moped's lock.
In a brazen act, the suspects were spotted first by the unblinking eye of surveillance, with the police quickly on their heels—at which point the chase turned from wheels to heels. Upon being confronted, the perpetrators attempted a desperate escape, with one pushing the moped at officers and another urging his accomplice to hitch a breakaway ride on the back of his moped. The attempted getaway sparked a foot chase, a physical tussle, and an officer being dangerously dragged along, Boston Police reported.
The two apprehended suspects have been identified as Billy Huynh, 20, and Christopher Jolliemore, 40, both residents of Boston. The duo's night came to a crashing halt when one suspect collided with a vehicle, leading to both of their arrests without further incident. Charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, destruction of property, disturbing the peace, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest, the suspects now face a different kind of lock-up.
Huynh and Jolliemore are expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court. The third accomplice vanishing into the night, remains at large. The incident underscores a collision, of criminal intent and law enforcement vigilance, offering a stark reminder that justice, though at times may seem hobbled by the fleetness of criminal audacity, is never far behind.
