Tragedy struck Chicago's Dan Ryan Expressway as two individuals lost their lives in separate hit-and-run incidents that transpired mere hours apart, officials stated.
The first fatal encounter came around 10:45 P.M. Saturday, when a driver, having exited a stalled vehicle in the interstate's left lane, was struck by a vehicle. The motorist who hit the individual failed to stop and instead disappeared into the night. The victim, 48-year-old Derek Easley, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Chicago Tribune reports.
A few hours after the first incident, another accident occurred at the expressway. At approximately 4:15 A.M. Sunday, a vehicle in the expressway’s southbound corridor near 47th Street collided with a pedestrian, then similarly fled, as noted by CBS News Chicago.
Both expressway collisions resulted in prolonged closures, as investigations commenced. Saturday's incident had northbound lanes shut until the cloak of early dawn, while the later crash saw southbound lanes closed past the break of daylight.
No suspects have been apprehended in either case. The Illinois State Police are fervently seeking information that might help identify the fugitive drivers.
