Gunfire rattled a Tempe neighborhood Friday evening, leaving a 15-year-old and another "juvenile" wounded in what seemed to be a drive-by turned into a shootout, as per local authorities. The victims were walking near Evergreen Road and University Drive, just east of Loop 101, when they were targeted by assailants in a passing vehicle, ABC15 reported.
The young teen was reportedly struck by the gunfire and rushed to the hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening, but as the vehicle fled the scene it was later abandoned and the deserters absent, the teen's wounds are a testament to the peril that crept up on an otherwise normal evening walk, the police are still piecing together the night's harrowing events. The abandoned vehicle was found nearby, and according to a statement obtained by 12 News, the four suspects believed to have been inside were also "juveniles," and they were located in the vicinity of the crime scene.
Further complicating the matter, one of these suspects, too, was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital; their injury also was non-life-threatening. Both sources confirm that as of now, it's unclear if any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, as the investigation remains ongoing and details are sparse as the night is dark.
