Jeremy, a 90-pound African spurred tortoise known for his escape artistry and widespread online fandom, has made headlines again after wandering off Blue Heron Farm in Waller, where he resides. According to Click2Houston, Jeremy's escapades reached new heights when he slipped away in search of a romantic adventure, leading to concern from his owners and adoring fans.
The wayward reptile, who has been notorious for giving his caretakers the slip, managed to disappear again on Wednesday. Despite being fitted with an Apple Air Tag to prevent just such an incident, there were no hits on his location, leaving his owners at their wits' end. "We’ve put him in lost mode," the owners stated in a social media post. His absence prompted fears of a possible tortoise theft, as the Houston Chronicle reported.
Fortunately, the tale had a twist that could soften even the hardest of shells. The day after his great escape, Jeremy was found two blocks from home, his excursion coming to a halt thanks to the intervention of kind-hearted locals. These Good Samaritans unknowingly played matchmaker, as they took Jeremy to a fellow exotic animal enthusiast who also harbored tortoises, among other creatures. It was there that Jeremy unexpectedly wooed a female tortoise, as Lisa Seger mentioned in a statement obtained by Houston Chronicle.
After the Segers broadcasted Jeremy's MIA status across social media channels, they received a likely life-changing tip. A social media user claimed to have spotted the celebrity shelled wanderer at the home of a neighbor known for keeping "camels". The Segers quickly tracked down the location, where Christian Seger had to confirm Jeremy's identity by pointing out his distinctive shell damage. As it turns out, despite Jeremy's brief delight in the company of a newfound lady love, he was soon to be plucked from his love nest and returned to Blue Heron Farm.
