A Sunday drive turned disastrous for a local woman who is now fighting for her life after a high-speed crash into a utility pole on the Northwest side. The accident, which took place near Hamilton Wolfe and Floyd Curl Drive, sent the 36-year-old driver and her passenger to the hospital.
According to FOX San Antonio, the incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. when the woman, behind the wheel of a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, tried passing another vehicle at an unsafe speed. In an unexpected twist of fate, she lost control of the car, swerved, and was sent crashing into the pole, the vehicle's crumpled form wrapped around the base like a metallic embrace gone wrong.
The as yet unidentified woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital. Her passenger, however, escaped with minor injuries, underscoring the unforeseen mercy often found amidst calamity.
As authorities analyze the wreckage for answers, there are currently no criminal charges. Speeding often leads to devastating consequences, leaving behind shattered glass and the sound of sirens. Officials are still investigating, but recklessness seems to be a factor in the scene.
