A 16-year-old male has been swept up by Chicago law enforcement and now faces grave accusations following a violent outbreak that left a young woman dead and three others wounded. According to a press release from the Chicago Police Department, the teenager, whose identity remains shielded due to his minor status, stands charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
The Chicago Police Department shared the details surrounding the arrest, recounting how on April 2, the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, alongside Chicago officers, collared the suspect in the 5900 block of N. Glenwood Ave. It was this youth who authorities believe, unfurled chaos on a quiet afternoon on February 25, where at approximately 3:34 p.m., a firearm was brandished that snuffed out the life of a 19-year-old female and wreaked havoc on three other lives, in the 7300 block of N. Rogers Ave., in the city's 24th District.
The tragic encounter unfolded when the accused allegedly opened fire on the group, which also included another 19-year-old female, a 22-year-old male, and a 20-year-old male, all of whom sustained injuries from the shooting. In the wake of the crime, Chicago's legal machinery has been set in motion, with a detention hearing set for April 4, at 2600 S. California.
As the courtroom awaits the young defendant, the details of the February incident continue to haunt the community, the repercussions of which will be felt long after justice has reached its verdict. The police are holding the information close, citing the investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is currently being released.
