
A young man's life came to a tragic end early Monday morning when he was fatally shot in an apartment building hallway in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, authorities reported.
The 21-year-old victim was in the 1600 block of West 82nd Street around 1:20 a.m. when the assailant, whose identity remains unknown, unleashed a barrage of bullets, one of which struck him in the chest. Despite being rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, his fight for life ended there with his death being pronounced, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
As of now, the shooter is at large with no arrests having been made, stirring unease in the community. Chicago Police Area Two detectives have taken charge of the investigation, delving into the events that culminated in this deadly incident. As they work the case, details remain scarce and the victim's identity has yet to be disclosed to the public.
"The man was in the hallway of the apartment building in the 1600 block of West 82nd Street at about 1:19 a.m. when police said a suspect entered and fired shots," reported WLS-TV.
