
A 4-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was found lifeless in a hotel pool in suburban Chicago, triggering a desperate rescue attempt by guests and first responders. The near-drowning occurred Friday night at the Renaissance Hotel located at 1400 Milwaukee Avenue in Glenview, as reported by NBC Chicago.
Around 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, Brayden Brubaker and his father Jeff were among those at the hotel pool when panic struck, the pair experienced the chaos firsthand Brayden told CBS Chicago, "Everyone was just running and panicking," he had seen the child "chilling on the edge of the pool near the deep end area, and next thing we knew, the daughter was pulling him out."
Jeff Brubaker, witnessing the boy being pulled from the water unresponsive, quickly administered CPR, recalling the harrowing moment and detailing, "I was doing compressions, you know breaths, and he started foaming, and I could hear a bunch of water in his lungs," Jeff shared with CBS Chicago. After the initial rescue attempts by the Brubakers, Glenview police took over with chest compressions until fire crews arrived and rushed the toddler to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
Subsequent to the event the hotel pool remained open while the Glenview Police were piecing together the circumstances that led to the child ending up alone in the water the investigation persists, it is believed that the boy's mother was present at the pool at the time according to the Brubakers’ account to CBS Chicago. The details about whether the boy was drowning or had a medical emergency have not been disclosed by the police.
