An Austin Police officer has resigned from the force following accusations that he entered his ex-girlfriend’s apartment without permission. Juan Asencio, who served as a senior officer, stepped down on April 1 after being charged with criminal trespass, a misdemeanor offense, after his arrest on March 25.

Sources indicate Asencio was released on a $10,000 bond with strict conditions, including instructions to not possess a firearm, avoid contact with his ex, and not come within 200 yards of her. His vehicle must also remain under GPS tracking. Asencio's attorney, Brad Heilman, stated, "Asencio did resign so he can focus on the criminal case." Heilman also added, "The probable cause affidavit doesn’t show all the facts, and he looks forward to presenting all of the facts in his defense," according to KXAN.

The incident unfolded on March 13 when a neighbor reportedly saw Asencio in the victim's residence at Reveal at Onion Creek Apartments. The neighbor, who got alarmed, contacted others, and they heard a noise, prompting them to retreat to their units, as per KVUE.

The victim, who was away on a business trip at the time, was alerted by neighbors about the incident. Upon returning, she discovered that her items had been tampered with. "Do you mind contacting me, please? We need to talk," was a text sent by Asencio on the evening of the trespass, the victim told KVUE, a message she did not see until the day after the incident.

Before the alleged trespass, the ex-girlfriend had discovered an Apple Air Tag hidden within her vehicle, as reported by KXAN. She informed police that the device was planted under the carpet, and Asencio initially claimed the Air Tag "must have fallen out of his gym bag."
