A Boynton Beach man, Sidney Flerme, 31, was handed a stiff sentence of 220 months in federal prison for drug and firearms offenses. According to a statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Flerme was convicted for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and for being a felon in possession of a firearm, alongside his role in a larger drug trafficking operation.
Law enforcement first caught a glimpse of Flerme’s criminal activities during a warranted search on September 15, 2022. Officials were preparing to quickly execute the search when they saw him discard a plastic bag, later found to contain approximately 26 capsules of fentanyl. Further investigation of his residence revealed another 300 grams of the substance, a loaded semi-automatic pistol, and equipment indicative of drug distribution including digital scales and a four-ton pill press. The account detailed by the WFLX report paints a clear image of Flerme’s deep involvement in the narcotics trade.
U.S. District Judge Robin L. Rosenberg sentenced Flerme, following a guilty plea entered on October 11, 2023. After his prison term, Flerme will also face five years of supervised release. The case, which underscores the continued effort to curb the rampant fentanyl crisis and associated firearm-related crimes, was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program designed to build cooperative efforts between law enforcement agencies aimed to make neighborhoods safer.
The joint investigative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Boynton Beach Police were essential in bringing the case to a close.
