Tragedy struck Brockton on Easter Sunday when 27-year-old Sederick Abreu was shot to death, prompting a meticulous investigation as authorities continue their search for the shooter. The Plymouth County District Attorney's office confirmed the incident occurred at around 2:17 a.m. on Hoover Avenue. Responders found the man suffering from a chest wound when they arrived, and despite being rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, Abreu succumbed to his injuries, as reported by NBC Boston.
The shooting has rocked the community, with locals expressing their disbelief. "It was like 1am, it was like really loud, people were yelling and cursing," neighbor Madina Dansoko recounted to Boston 25 News. Another resident, who identified herself only as Nina, said, "It’s very surprising and I woke up at 3 and saw a couple of cars there and it was shocking," her sense of security clearly shaken by the early morning violence. Authorities underscored that this was not a random act, suggesting a targeted killing, though details remain scant as the investigation presses forward.
Derrick Cornell, who lives just a few houses down from the crime scene, didn't have a strong personal connection to the victim but recognized the impact of the event on the neighborhood. "I mean it is Brockton, Just from waving hi and by driving by. I don’t really know them like that," Cornell told Boston 25 News. In stark contrast to the crime scene that unfolded, another neighbor, Nina, highlighted the area's usually amiable atmosphere, "Very, very wonderful neighborhood. We’re all very close," she told CBS News Boston.
As the local community grapples with the shock of the shooting, the presence of investigators and crime scene markers became a grim reminder of the city's dark moment. According to CBS News Boston, a single bullet was found on the street, a tangible piece of evidence in a puzzle seemingly shrouded with more questions than answers. Throughout the day, tense scenes emerged with an elderly man being assisted from the home and a visibly distraught woman prevented from entering. Yet undisclosed, are the underlying motives which led to the fateful dispute that ended Abreu's life, with the District Attorney's office and local police keeping details close as they work to piece together events that led to this untimely death.
