Drivers traveling northbound on State Route 13 in Oakland can expect some minor delays next week, starting on April 15. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is launching a weeklong operation aimed at reducing the risk of wildfires in the area.

Crews will work on the shoulder of the road between Mountain Boulevard and Redwood Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. They will focus on preventing wildfires by clearing dead and dying trees, removing thick vegetation, and thinning dense tree areas.

This effort, spanning Interstate 580 to State Route 24, will involve cutting tree limbs, thinning out dense tree clusters, and removing invasive shrubs. Led by a registered professional forester, the crews are committed to minimizing the risk of fire spreading.

While this work is underway, Caltrans advises drivers that occasional lane closures may occur to ensure the safety of the workers. However, such closures are not expected during the week of April 15. Caltrans appreciates the public's patience during this time and acknowledges the inconvenience caused by the construction.

To ensure safety, signs will be posted, and California Highway Patrol officers will be present to manage traffic flow. Drivers are reminded to drive cautiously through the construction zone for the safety of both the workers and fellow motorists.
