A 34-year-old man was slapped with federal drug charges after Chicago law enforcement agents hit his Wicker Park pad last week, unearthing a hefty stash of narcotics and an arsenal of firearms. Hugo Pinzon is facing some serious heat for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, the feds say.
The bust was part of an extended probe, and agents rolled up with a court-sanctioned warrant to rummage through Pinzon's joint. They struck pay dirt, snagging distribution-sized quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana, plus over a dozen guns and a stack of cash, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Chicago. And it seems Pinzon played himself earlier this year, selling cocaine on three separate occasions to a snitch cozy with the feds.
Pinzon was cuffed last Thursday and is now cooling his heels until his detention hearing, coming up on April 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole. This drama in the courts unfolds while the neighborhood murmurs about the shadow of narcotics haunting their streets.
Action against Pinzon was brought to light by Morris Pasqual, the Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Sean Fitzgerald, Chicago's point man for Homeland Security Investigations. Carpentersville, Ill. The Police Department also pitched in. The man with the playbook for the government is Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey S. Snell.
