Residents of Chicago's 18th District have been put on high alert after a string of armed robberies rocked the area. Police report that several incidents occurred on the morning of April 12, where groups of masked assailants, armed with handguns, have been forcefully relieving locals of their cell phones and belongings before making their getaway in a dark-colored sedan.
Four specific incidents have been flagged in a recent community alert, detailing robberies along North Halsted St and Kingsbury St, further spreading to Sheffield Ave. In what seems to be a carefully executed series of crimes, the offenders, described as male African Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 wearing masks and black clothing, chose to quickly strike and just as quickly to disappear into the streets.
In response to these alarming events, Chicago Police are advising locals to stay vigilant, to remain calm if facing such a threat, and to take note of any distinct features of the assailants that could aid in identification. They further emphasize against pursuing the offenders, instead urging victims and witnesses to contact 911 with comprehensive descriptions.
