A Clio man, John Digiacomo, will face an additional decade to two decades in prison adding to his current nearly 50-year term for sexual assault charges after a Genesee County judge sentenced him on multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a teenage girl, as reported by ABC12.
The 60-year-old fell under scrutiny when allegations surfaced that he, along with a co-conspirator Patrick Maule, began abusing the girl in 2014 shortly after she moved in with her aunt, who was living near Digiacomo; these attacks stretched over a period spanned ten months during which time he provided the victim narcotics and leveraged death threats against her and her family to maintain silence, a story that unravelled with grim persistence throughout the trial, according to the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
Judge David Newblatt's recent decision came following Digiacomo's February no contest plea, which is not an admission of guilt but acceptance of sentence; the latest punishment will run concurrent with his existing sentence for earlier offenses in Tuscola County.
"I'm thankful for the tireless efforts of prosecutors in my office to repeatedly bring Digiacomo to justice," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated, applauding the resolve of the victim who suffered years in silence before the facade of normality crumbled to reveal torments buried beneath and echoed her department's dedication to addressing cold case sexual assaults, a statement reaffirmed by the Department’s prosecutorial success and backed by federal grants aimed at tackling relationship violence, the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
Aside from the prison sentence, the court's judgement includes mandatory lifetime registration with the Sex Offender Registry and enduring electronic monitoring for Digiacomo, unfolding as a fragment of the clarion call to justice for silent victims bearing invisible shackle.
