Country music's headline-maker, Morgan Wallen, found himself on the wrong side of the law after a late-night bar incident in downtown Nashville. According to WSMV, the singer was arrested Sunday night for hurling a chair from the rooftop of Chief’s bar, nearly hitting two police officers on the street below.
The arrest affidavit reviewed by WSMV details that the furniture piece tossed by the 30-year-old singer barely missed the officers, landing within three feet of their position. Metro Nashville Police Department quickly reviewed the security footage from Chief's bar, which, confirmed Wallen’s impulsive act. Wallen was slapped with multiple felony charges, including reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct, after which, he was released early yesterday on a $15,250 bond.
In the aftermath of the incident, Benton McDonough, the executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife, expressed his bewilderment to WSMV, "How do you explain why a 30-year-old man would decide to throw a stool off the top of a rooftop bar?" Meanwhile, tourists like Aaron Liebowitz, shared his shock with WSMV, stressing the potential deadly outcome of such carelessness, "Anyone could be standing there at any time. I don’t think anyone wants a chair hitting them."
Wallen, known for hit songs like "Last Night" and "You Proof," has seen his share of controversy, including an incident where he was heard using a racial slur in 2021. This led to a suspension from his label and his music being pulled from airwaves, as detailed by AP News. Rehabilitation and apologies followed as Wallen attempted to navigate through the repercussions of his actions.
With court beckoning on May 3, Wallen's legal team issued a statement, obtained by WSMV, signaling his full cooperation with authorities. This legal stumble comes as another blemish on Wallen's career, which saw a recent revival punctuated by a sold-out tour and a record-breaking stint atop the Billboard 200. He is scheduled to play three concerts at Nissan Stadium, beginning the day before his court appearance, as reported by The Guardian.
