Covington Man Charged with Aggravated Assault Following Shooting at Apartment ComplexSource: Covington Police Department

A man has been thrown behind bars after letting loose a volley of gunshots at an apartment complex in Covington, Tenn. The accused, Steven Jones, age 32, is now facing a slew of charges, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The shooting hubbub kicked off last week at Sunrise Apartments when Jones allegedly extracted a pistol from his shorts and fired off 5-6 rounds in a zone where kids were milling about, as reported by WREG. Miraculously, no one was hit.

When the cops showed up, Jones pleaded the fifth on packing any heat. However, a thorough search warrant executed at his residence and on his car turned over a stolen gun, according to a report by Action News 5. The firearm, a 9mm piece, was previously reported missing in Mississippi. On top of the initial charges, Jones is also slapped with tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The Covington Police Department credited the quick action to the community, with residents and officers banding together to arrest the shooter. "The ATF is helping us track down the firearm information and additional charges are pending for Jones," explained Chief Donna Turner in a statement obtained by the Covington Police Facebook page. Jones' bond is set at $250,000, and he is expected to appear before the court at the end of the month.

Authorities continue to pursue the investigation, encouraging anyone with more intel to get in touch with the Criminal Investigations Division at 901-475-1261 or pass tips through the Covington Police Department's Facebook messenger or the city's website.
