The son of former Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, Jack Francis Lynch McGinn, was arrested on charges related to child sexual exploitation material, officials said, after an online tip led to a police search of his home.
Jack McGinn, 29, was taken into custody Friday morning after detectives from the Seattle Police Department acted on a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip-off, which indicated hundreds of child sexual abuse images being distributed, led to a search warrant at the suspect's address on the 8500 block of Dayton Avenue North, as reported by VOZ. Police confirmed that McGinn admitted to viewing and possessing the objectionable content.
Detectives discovered files on McGinn's desktop that showed minors in sexual acts during their search and further evidence was found on other electronic devices. "Jack McGinn admitted to downloading '…at least a hundred files containing images or videos of underage children involved in sexually explicit conduct,'" and further claimed that his drug addiction was tied to the consumption of the illegal material; as he asserted, "he has a cocaine addiction and goes on weekend benders which is when he typically views the child sex abuse material on his desktop," in a statement obtained by VOZ.
Following the arrest, McGinn was charged with possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, and dealing in depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He was booked into King County Jail around 11 a.m. but has since bailed out, his father, Mike McGinn, served as Seattle's mayor from 2010 to 2014 and was known for his environmental initiatives and promotion of alternative transportation, as per FOX 13 Seattle.
