If you're looking to add a little adventure to your Texas getaway, Camp FIMFO in the Hill Country has got you covered with the state's only Alpine Coaster. The "Cliff Carver," a gravity-propelled ride, boasts a nearly one-mile track, where single riders or duos can zoom at speeds up to 25 mph. According to KSAT, tickets run $20 for solo riders and $35 for a pair, with ridership rules stating drivers must be at least 16 years old to have a passenger, while solo drivers need to be over 9 years old and at least 54 inches tall.
But to quickly snag a spot on this unique coaster, you'll want to swiftly make a reservation online. Aside from the adrenaline-pumping experience, your Cliff Carver ticket also grants access to handy amenities like the general store and Squirrely’s Tavern. Meanwhile, the rest of the wonders Camp FIMFO offers - like its waterslides, pools, and live entertainment - are reserved for those staying at the resort. Camp FIMFO is within a stone's throw of the Guadalupe River, only about an hour's drive from downtown San Antonio, located at 520 Whitewater Way.
Beyond the coaster, this family-friendly outpost packs quite the punch when it comes to amenities. "We think it’s one of the best-kept secrets in Texas," General Manager Doran Eichenberg told KENS 5. The resort spans a whopping 213 cabins and 247 RV sites, not to mention 29 spots for tents. Whether you're cozying up in an A-frame hut for two or spreading out in a three-bedroom suite, the cabins are designed to please. RV sites come with the full electric hookup deal while tent sites have access to power too.
Dare to descend one of the four gigantic waterslides, splash about in several pools, or enjoy a leisurely drift on the lazy river. With miniature golf, hiking and biking trails, golf cart rentals, and outdoor concerts, there's something for everyone. And speaking of concerts, the venue's stage has seen the likes of Willie Nelson, with Miranda Lambert set to own the Memorial Day weekend with three scheduled performances.
