Kids and parents, gear up for a week sans swings and slides at City Center Park. The popular playgrounds and the splash-tastic spray pad area are going on a short hiatus starting Thursday, April 11, as the city rolls up its sleeves for some sprucing up. The week-long closure is down to some much-needed maintenance work that's set to give the park's amenities a fresh new lease on life.
Scheduled maintenance isn't always the talk of the town, but when it shuts down a kiddie-paradise, ears perk up. Weather playing nice, the contractors will be tackling the spray pad, giving it a new surface that's sure to make the summer splashes even better. While they're at it, the City's Public Works crew, who apparently know their way around a paintbrush, are planning to give the playground equipment a new stain job. As announced on the city's website, the playground and spray pad will be strictly no-entry zones during the revamp.
But it's not all doom and gloom for park enthusiasts. If you've got to answer the call of nature or just take a breather on a bench, the park's other facilities, including the restrooms, are staying open. So, it's not a complete park lock-down, just a hiatus for where the little tykes usually run amok.
