According to a Facebook post by the local police department, the suspect, identified as Christopher Floyd of Coral Springs, Florida, was arrested Monday evening following a second alarm call at the building.
Police state that they initially found Floyd's personal belongings but no sign of the man after responding to the first alarm call at around 6:20 pm. The door, found unlocked was secured by officers at the request of property management. However, a subsequent alarm a little over an hour later led officers back to the scene where they then spotted Floyd smoking inside through a window. An inspection of the premises revealed that the same door was now damaged, and forced open, an admission made by Floyd during the encounter.
Floyd, following his apprehension, was taken into custody where a black Smith and Wesson semi-automatic 40 caliber handgun with a scratched-off serial number was found among his possessions during a routine inventory. In addition to the weapon, Floyd had two loaded magazines. The court set bail at $20,040 and he was taken to court the next morning.
At Worcester District Court, he faced multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, defacing a firearm serial number, and possession of ammunition without an FID/LTC – as well as breaking for a misdemeanor, trespass, and destruction of property. After his arraignment, the court ordered that Floyd be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, signaling the gravity of the offenses.
