A former Dallas police sergeant has been charged with stealing multiple firearms from the police property room, authorities revealed Tuesday. The allegations against Thomas Fry suggest a breach of trust that has rattled the department.
Sgt. Thomas Fry, who had been assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, is accused of having taken three duty firearms between August 2021 and July 2022. According to the Dallas Police Department, the investigation that began on October 10, 2022, has culminated in Fry turning himself over to authorities this past Monday.
The Dallas Police Department has confirmed that Fry is facing three counts of Theft of a Firearm, which is a state jail felony. The arrest warrants were issued following a detailed investigation by the department's Public Integrity Unit. The case, documented under number 184539-2022, is still under investigation.
Fry surrendered himself to Mesquite Police on April 8, indicating a readiness to face the charges brought against him. The Dallas Police Department pledged to maintain the integrity of its force and the safety of its communities and is expected to follow up rigorously on the misconduct of one of its own. The police sergeant has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
