A fatal gunfight erupting from a heated argument claimed the life of a Georgia man, authorities said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is probing the death of Robert Lamar Herrington, 39, who was fatally shot on a street in Millen, a town roughly 50 miles south of Augusta. According to a statement on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Herrington and another man, whose name has not been released, were reportedly involved in an altercation prior to the exchange of gunfire on Corbett Street.

Responding to a 911 call about the shooting, Millen Police officers arrived on the scene to find Herrington suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Transported to a local hospital, Herrington's life slipped away as he was pronounced dead. Suffering from gunshot wounds as well, the second man involved was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital in Augusta, where he is now in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation suggests that the deadly encounter resulted from an earlier argument between Herrington and another man, which escalated into both of them shooting each other. As part of the ongoing investigation, Herrington's body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab, where an autopsy will be conducted.
