City officials have put the pedal to the metal on traffic improvement measures on Cotton Lane and Yuma Road as Goodyear's streets were getting more jammed than a Rush Hour subway train. With the asphalt army rolling out upgrades, including an additional right turn lane from southbound Cotton Lane to westbound Yuma Road, and beefing up the southbound traffic flow with two more lanes, locals are expecting a smoother commute, according to the City of Goodyear.
To untangle the snarled traffic at this busy intersection, the city has also introduced a dedicated left turn lane on southbound Cotton Lane at Pima Street and tossed in a northbound bike lane for good measure. Drivers stuck in the gridlock that often plagues the area breathed a sigh of relief, hoping these changes will trim down their travel times.
Not stopping at street-level improvements, according to an announcement on the City of Goodyear's website, the Arizona Department of Transportation has its sights set on a bigger piece of the puzzle. ADOT plans to construct a new leg of Loop 303 stretching from Maricopa County Road 85 (MC 85) to Van Buren Street in Goodyear, which could further ease the chronic congestion haunting the city's thoroughfares.
