A Lenoir City police officer, heralded as "Officer of the Year" in 2023, sits in the crosshairs of controversy following his arrest over accusations of domestic assault, as per court documents cited by multiple sources. The now-suspended Officer Christopher Law allegedly caused a scene at a retirement party, which spilled over into a physical and verbal altercation the next day.

The incident reportedly began on April 15 when Law was ejected from the gathering due to excessive inebriation, prompting colleagues to summon a relative to retrieve him, as WVLT News reported. Law's outburst even included hurling expletives in front of a six-year-old child. The situation escalated the following day, with Law purportedly to have followed the family member into a bathroom, punched close by their vicinity, and challenged them to a physical confrontation.

Law's subsequent actions are said to involve self-inflicted violence and intimidatory remarks, where he suggested authorities would discredit the victim's account, thus ensuring the complainant's own professional downfall. "[They] wouldn’t believe [them] anyway and that [they] would lose [their] job," Law alleged in a statement through the warrant obtained by WVLT News.

Meanwhile, Law's prior accolades stand in stark contrast to his current predicament. In addition to his 2023 commendation, he had also participated in a charity event, "Hunks in Heels," aimed to raise funds for local domestic assault victims’ aid organization - Iva's Place. That same nonprofit has now severed ties with Law, affirming they had conducted a background check with no red flags prior to the engagement, only to be taken aback by his alleged criminal conduct, as reported by 10News.

As the Loudon County Sheriff's Office handles the ongoing investigation, Lenoir City Police Chief Don White has confirmed Law's pay-suspended status.
