After over two decades at the helm of Phoenix-based Banner Health, veteran CEO Peter Fine is stepping down. Fine announced that his retirement will be effective June 30, with Amy Perry set to take over the role of president and CEO the following day, as reported by ABC15.

Perry, who ascended to the position of president and chief operating officer in November 2021, is poised to continue leading Banner Health, an organization with over 55,000 employees. Notably, Fine, who gained recognition on Modern Healthcare's list of the '100 Most Influential People in Healthcare' for an eleventh time, will remain as CEO Emeritus until January 2025, providing guidance to Perry, and the Banner board, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

With a career that saw the expansion of Banner Health across six southwestern states, Fine's tenure has been marked by notable growth and adaptation, particularly through the coronavirus pandemic, shifting gears in healthcare delivery and strategy. Perry, named to Modern Healthcare’s 2023 Top 25 Women Leaders, joined the organization as it was navigating out of the pandemic, and has played a critical role in establishing a physician enterprise division to drive value-based priorities, as per the Phoenix Business Journal.

As Perry prepares to assume her new role, the industry will be watching to see how she builds on Fine’s legacy and steers Banner Health into its next chapter amid the ever-shifting landscape of the healthcare sector.
